Exemptions
An exemption is required for indivisible loads measuring 16.50 x 2.55 x 4.00 or weighing 40,000 kg or more.
In the case of a motor vehicle with a trailer, an exemption for indivisible cargo is required for dimensions exceeding: 18.75 x 2.55 x 4.00 x 40,000 kg.
When it comes to exemptions, Germany distinguishes between them based on subsections.
If the vehicle complies with the legally permitted maximum dimensions but the load is too long, too high, or too wide, an exemption is required in Germany under §46 of the StVZO (Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung).
If a vehicle exceeds the maximum permitted dimensions and/or weights, an exemption is required under §70 of the StVZO as well as under §29 and §46 of the StVZO.
A §70 is a vehicle permit for vehicles or vehicle combinations that allow the legal maximum dimensions to be exceeded. The basis for granting a §70 is a TÜV report. A TÜV report contains the technical specifications of the vehicle combination. A TÜV report is often provided upon the purchase of a new trailer; you can also contact NL Exceptioneel for this purpose.
Based on §70, an exemption under §29 may be requested. An exemption under §29 is a temporary exemption that is valid for up to three months.
The price of a German exemption under §29 is determined based on seven different factors. Not all of these factors can be determined in advance. For a non-binding estimate of the cost of your permit, please contact our exemption department.
When it comes to German exemptions, we work closely with our German sister company. This allows us to make the most of the knowledge of the German road network available within the NL Exceptioneel group. This mutual cooperation is also of great importance when it comes to working with the German authorities.
Guided Tours
In Germany, there are no specific regulations governing transport escorts. Whether, and in what form, a transport escort is required depends on the provisions of the exemption. These provisions may vary by state. The requirements depend on various factors, such as the dimensions of the load or any roadwork in progress.
In Germany, there are different levels of escort services for transport. For example, an exemption may specify BF2, BF3, BF4, or Hilfepolizei.
Our sister company in Germany has BF2, BF3, and BF4 vehicles and can also arrange for HiPo (Hilfepolizei) and police escorts. In addition, several Dutch NL Exceptional escorts have been trained to provide escort services in Germany as BF2 or BF3 escorts.
Travel Times
In Germany, driving times for special transport are specified in the permit. Driving times may vary by state.
