Regulations in Sweden
Exemptions
In Sweden, a special permit is required if a load is wider than 3.50 meters or taller than 4.50 meters. A permit is also required for loads at least 30 meters long. If the load is longer than 24 meters and exceeds at least one other legally permitted dimension, a permit is also required.
When it comes to weight, a permit is required for vehicles weighing 42,000 kg or 48,000 kg or more. For a five-axle combination, a waiver is required for weights of 42,000 kg or more. If a combination has six or more axles, a waiver is required for weights of 48,000 kg or more.
Sweden does not grant long-term exemptions. Only route-specific exemptions are issued, valid for a maximum of three months.
Guided Tours
In Sweden, in addition to regular transport escorts, there is also VTL escort. VTL stands for Vägtransportledare and can be considered a substitute for the police. The table below, with length dimensions listed horizontally and widths listed vertically, shows the dimensions at which an escort and/or VTL is required.
